Discover the first gaming platform for health engagement.

The US healthcare industry has tried just about everything to crack the code on engagement. So why is nothing working? It’s pretty simple actually, digital health isn’t all that engaging.

The US healthcare industry has embraced gamification in an attempt to engage users in its ecosystem of engagement and digital health platforms. The problem is, it doesn’t work. Engagement metrics continue to fall short despite industry demand continuing to rise. The secret - people want games, not 'gamified' health products.

Our approach was simple - we drove health engagement and interaction within mobile games.

Games. Not gamification.

We've been working with our friends and partners at Motivv since 2020. Through that time we've deployed three versions of their healthcare mobile app, 14 mobile games, and all associated branding and marketing collateral.

The latest version of the Motivv platform allows mobile game developers to integrate the Motivv SDK into their Unity game, and leverage the healthcare benefits that Motivv and its healthc customers provide to their members.

Throughout the production, we produced 14 mobile games for iOS and Android, across a variety of casual genres.

When we started working with Auto Trader we were hoping to be paid in Ford Mustangs and Jaguar F-Types. Alas, that didn’t happen, but what we DID do was help evolve their mobile app into the new kickass UK marketplace for cars into what it is today.

When we first sat down with the executive team at Auto Trader, they informed us that they were transitioning their business from web-first to mobile product-first. We embraced this and were hired to help transition their business to put their mobile apps team at the core of the business.

We worked with Auto Trader’s internal development team to help establish new design processes, setting the Auto Trader mobile app as the frontrunner technology in the business, paving the way for an end-user centred experience.

The Auto Trader app now works FOR the user, helping them not only find their perfect car match, but also help with the running of their existing vehicle, completing the entire loop of car ownership in the UK.

The pocket-sized computer transforming the world

The micro:bit is used by millions of young people worldwide to get hands-on with computer science and technology. So far over 39 million students have learnt with micro:bit in over 60 countries worldwide.

Working with the wonderfully passionate micro:bit team was a delight. Play XD partnered with micro:bit's internal team on a number of projects including iOS app software, website design consistency, QA testing, and research and development.

One of the fundamental challenges we were tasked with is how do we make the user experience of connecting via blutooth simple and fun, when you have potentially 30+ devices being used in a classroom environment, with 30+ iPads. Needless to say our studio was packed with a LOT of micro:bits and a LOT of devices, with thorough user testing running parallel with UX Design and research and development.

We help evolve the existing iOS software to help with the next generation of micro:bit device in time with the BBC's press release for the start of school term in September 2023. We also delivered the next generation concept of the new iOS App that would be used to spearhead the development of the new Android App.

We're really excited to see what the future holds for micro:bit and children's crreative coding around the world.

The hard-hitting combat card game set in the world of MMA. Train, Fight, Glory.

We teamed up with EA Games Executive Rick Giolito and the Veteran Voice of the UFC Octagon, Bruce Buffer to create the hard-hitting combat card game based in the world of Mixed Martial Arts.


MMA Federation is a mobile Combat Card Game (CCG) that rewards players the more they play. Players can create their fighters, join real world MMA teams, train with real MMA coaches and fighters, progress their fight career, as well as challenging friends and competing in real PvP tournaments.

Throughout the process we provided game design documentation and project planning, technical RnD and proof of concepts, art and design concepts, environment and character art, game development, UX and UI art and design, QA and testing, and also assisted with all launch and marketing collateral.

Original characters

Our Primals don't just bite and claw each other; that’s for boring dinosaurs! Spin kick your way to victory, swing your fat head like a mace, or nunchuk your neck giblets at your opponents!

We would like to stress that we didn’t discriminate between reptile, mammal or bird, in the making of Primal Rumble. However we DID learn that the bigger your deck, the bigger your chances are!

Follow the Yellow Brick Road to an amazing, new adventure.

We teamed up with our friends at Dubit and an all-star cast behind this feature movie including Lea Michele, Kelsey Grammer, Dan Aykroyd, Jim Belushi, Martin Short, Oliver Platt, Hugh Dancy and the great Patrick Stewart.

The production team behind the movie spoke to us originally to understand more about how virtual worlds and online games could be used to continue storytelling and adventures outside of their movie IP. While the movie was still in pre-production, we worked with their teams of animators, script writers, actors and more to design a virtual world that would help introduce children, a new demographic to this timeless property.

The world was designed to introduce children to the adventure ahead of the movie being released, and then continue their adventure after they saw it in 

. We encouraged re-engagement throughout the world by introducing new games and adventures, creating a platform to keep fans coming back again and again.

We adore creating products for children, and it's even better if there are educational benefits to them. Puku is just that!

Working with our friends at Preloaded, we helped to advise on design and worked on various proof of concepts and design prototypes for their new Merrium-Webster product - Puku. Quickly register and add your child (or children) to allow them to meet Puku, and help him grow as your child learns and understands new words.

Smart Books that immerse children into adventures with light and sound.

Working with our friends at Preloaded we helped to pioneer the onboarding a user journey for Smart Book's integration to the McDonald's Happy Studio App.

As with much of our work, we lean into innovation. Preloaded were looking to introduce smart lights and speakers to the McDonald's Happy Studio stories, immersing children into their adventures further.

We started by designing a highly detailed user flow map, detailing all aspects of setting up various smart lights and speakers through an integrated onboarding journey.

Working with Preloaded's internal development team, we created various interactive prototypes to communicate the process, and help visualise how millions of children would experience McDonald's new Smart Books.

The retail fashion mobile app putting users at the centre of their shopping experience.

We didn’t go as far as completely changing our wardrobes with Missguided, but we did help their internal development team realise and validate their new mobile app.

We were hired to help lead and support the Missguided internal team to get their new mobile app product to market. The team at the popular retail fashion company had already done an amazing job with the new mobile app. We offered some additional value in validating their design, and helped to bridge the gap between their internal design team and development team.

We advised on a variety of new features and future considerations for the team and mobile app, as well as introducing new design systems for future expansion within the internal team.

Mrs Wordsmith are all about literacy materials that work for kids, parents, and educators. Their hilariously illustrated, curriculum-aligned books and games are proven to make learning to read, and reading to learn, fun and effective.

Working with our friends at Preloaded and collaboratively with Mrs Wordsmith's internal development and design team, we created an immersive mobile tablet education game for kids, helping them to learn and collect words while exploring a hilarious and wonderful mansion.

We created fully interactive wireframe prototypes to communicate and help visualise a child's journey through the game, and also to illustrate how parents and teachers can interact with them in the same eco-system.

In 2015, world leaders agreed to 17 Global Goals (officially known as the Sustainable Development Goals or SDGs). It's now five years on, and we have more work than ever to do. These goals have the power to create a better world by 2030, by ending poverty, fighting inequality and addressing the urgency of climate change. Guided by the goals, it is now up to all of us, governments, businesses, civil society and the general public to work together to build a better future for everyone.

Our friends at Matmi had been working with ICAEW for some time on their new Global Goals initiative, where they worked with their members helping to raise awareness in organizations about the UN’s 2030 Global Goals. Traditionally they had done this in live workshops, travelling up and down the country.

We joined the collaborative to help explore ways in which they could raise awareness before their workshops, providing material for members in order to prepare them for the workshop. We also didn’t want members to simply return to ‘business as usual’ after the workshop, and wanted to provide follow-up processes post-workshops.

We designed and developed a new mobile web app for ICAEW to share with their members, onboarding individuals and introducing them broadly to the Global Goals. As well as detailing an overview and examples of each ‘Goal’ the app also introduced a new community, allowing members to share ideas and promote new initiatives.

How do you reform an institution to help consistently onboard young people through numerous products and services.


We love working with organizations who share our core values and love to work with those looking to make a genuine difference with technology. We did just this with The Prince’s Trust.

The Prince’s Trust is renowned for helping young people with education, careers and starting their own businesses. They are an extremely well established organization and as such have a large network of channels and processes that they need to navigate in order to introduce new opportunities for young people.

We helped to create a strategy around onboarding young people through the charity, regardless of where their journey started, and what they wanted to do. With a new mobile-first outlook, we helped to create their new customer journeys, user flows, and worked with their various departments to make their entire onboarding journey future proofed and more consistent.

What got past generations here, won’t get the next to where they want to be. AQai's aim is to not only quantify and provide insight into AQ, but also to help individuals and organisations to improve their ability to adapt in the fastest period of change in human history.

We joined the wonderful people at AQai in 2018 to help kickstart their journey, focussing on how to best onboard their customers and end users to a brand new system, and visualize a first-to-market, data-heavy product, in an easy-to-use process.

Broadly there were two core elements to the project - A mobile first chatbot onboarding process, designed to gather data from end-users and introduce them to the platform. Secondly, a desktop dashboard to help individuals and organizations navigate their AQ assessment results, and manage their own areas of adaptability.

Our first conversation with Nordea was about UX Design. By the time we finished the project, we had re-inspired their internal design team, encouraged a new design culture within personal banking, and introduced design thinking into their new development-led agile ways of working.

We worked with Nordea's internal teams across various locations including Copenhagen, Stockholm, Helsinki, and the rather chilly town of Oulu (northern Finland… very cold). We quickly helped establish a new design team in Copenhagen with their internal teams, helping to re-establish the web-first corporate banking design team in Denmark. That enabled us to focus on personal banking, prioritising a mobile app focus, out of their offices in Helsinki and Oulu.

We started laying a foundation of collaboration, inclusivity, creativity and integrity into the design team, encouraging a new design culture, and reintroducing the design side of the business to the rest of digital banking. We worked with their internal designers as well as established consultants to integrate with development feature teams, while also remaining true to our new design culture.

At a higher level, we worked actively across all feature teams, ensuring quality and consistency was in place across the entirety of the personal banking mobile app, as well as proactively working on new innovative prototypes for the future of digital banking.

We worked collaboratively alongside our friends at Sorted, helping to add the software and product to their marketing and development. A logistical match made in retail.

We began our journey with Sorted helping to lead the internal design team while their Design Director spent some well-earned paternity leave helping to take care of their family. We made that much progress when they returned that we stuck around for a few more months helping to get their latest product, React, across the line.

Sorted’s latest product helps retailers to leverage delivery and courier service information to maintain consistent communication with their customers. No longer would consumers receive retailer communications up to purchase, and then delivery company messages from that point on.

Instead, React presents the opportunity for retailers to complete their customer experience loop, ensuring a much smoother service… and most importantly, happy customers!

CDD Services and their flagship product, Spotlite, helps organizations to evidence compliance, with a safe, secure and simple digital experience.

We've been working with the wonderful team at CDD Services for many years now. Their passion to combat identity fraud, money laundering and modern day slavery completely aligns with our own values and its wonderful for us knowing that our hard work is having a positive impact in the world.

Over the years we've handled full end-to-end design and development services for CDD, including product design for their mobile apps, website design, and production of their web-app back-end dashboard software, all under the revolutionary 'Spotlite' brand.

The official campaign microsite for the Fiat 500 Abarth and Punto Sport by Bauer Millett.

We created the original campaign microsite, in partnership with Bauer Millett, for the iconic re-launch of the Fiat 500 Abarth and Grande Punto.

For two generations Bauer Millett have supplied prestige cars up and down the country, including being the sole supplier of American imports to BBC's Top Gear.

To commemorate the automotive giant's partnership with Abarth, we created a full online experience for the launch, immersing users into a web environment, allowing them to totally interact with both the Fiat 500 Abarth and the Grande Punto.

Both vehicles, in various points of view, were situated in a dark atmospheric warehouse building, lights flickering, with the faint rattling of the ominous 'scorpion' in the background.

Additional content within the site paid homage to the heritage of the Fiat 500 and all its accolades through the years.

Create a chatbot with zero coding skills required.

Flow XO is a powerful automation product that allows you to quickly and simply build incredible AI chatbot solutions that help you communicate and engage with your customers across a wide range of sites, applications and social media platforms.

We set up the new development team for Flow XO, a service platform enabling B2Cs and Digital Agencies to easily build end-to-end services for multiple messaging platforms, including Facebook Messenger, SMS, Telegram, WhatsApp and iMessage.

We helped form a new studio and development team in Manchester, took ownership of the Flow XO chatbot platform, hands on design and development, and handled the day to day running of the new studio. In addition, regular stakeholder meetings out of the head office in Manchester, as well as regular customer meetings for product feedback.

We hired the first in-house development team, as well as working with multiple remote staff. We introduced a ‘flexible’ agile way of working, and mindful to ensure that the process allowed us to evolve and grow with the team, as well as appreciating the history and ways of working with the original team.

The racing game set in a vast open world.

FUEL, a racing game set in a vast open world, raced onto PS3, Xbox 360 and PC in 2009 when it was published by Codemasters. Set in an alternative present where the world had been wrecked by the effects of climate change, FUEL focussed on extreme racing on an epic scale.

Featuring an ambitious 5,000 square miles for players to explore, racers were pitted against fearsome weather in buggies, trucks, and an assortment of fierce-looking off-road vehicles.

FUEL also gave players a chance to collect tonnes of unlockables from around the world’s huge map, including vehicles, skins, helmets, and driver clothing.

We had the opportunity to create the official microsite for the game, immersing users into the world of the game through the web browser, with loads of interactivity and visceral content.
